I know, I know, I promised you all this special edition Gamescom version of the newsletter at the end of August, but you see, the thing is… I was busy playing Helldivers. But, now that Europe's biggest gaming show is behind us (and I've sufficiently spread managed democracy across the galaxy), it's time to look at all the sci-fi goodness that came out of the show. And if you're not a gamer, don't worry — your regularly scheduled Watch This Space service will resume next week with loads of movie and TV coverage as usual.

Leading the away mission to GamesCom was Echo Apsey, our intrepid red-shirt freelance journalist who was on the ground for some hands-on previews. They checked out three of the most exciting sci-fi games at the event — The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, Pragmata, and Directive 8020 — and came away loving two out of the three. No I'm not telling you which two, go read the previews below.

For my part, I got to chat with the Creative Director of Lunar Strike, a sci-fi narrative adventure game about preserving humanity's legacy on the moon. If you're a space fan who wants more realism and less pew-pew laser blasters in your sci-fi gaming, this is definitely one to check out.

There were also some very cool reveals at Gamescom, especially for fans of strategy games based on decades-old TV shows. You'd think that venn diagram crossover would be kinda niche, but here we are. Star Trek Voyager — Across the Unknown looks like FTL with a Star Trek skin and I'm all about it, while Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is a roguelite that sees you building a whole fleet to bravely run away from the Cylons in.

Alright, I can't stay here now. I'm too hip, I gotta go. See you next week!
