Tropical Storm Nicole hits Florida and Artemis 1 moon rocket

The storm made landfall just south of Cape Canaveral, home to NASA's Kennedy Space Center, in the early morning hours today while it was still rated as a hurricane. The wind speeds were beyond what NASA may have expected.

United Launch Alliance's (ULA) workhorse rocket lifted off today from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base at 4:49 a.m. EST (0949 GMT; 1:49 a.m. local California time), carrying two payloads toward Earth orbit.

Greenland's largest ice sheet is thawing at a much higher rate than expected, a new study has revealed, suggesting it will add six times more water to the rising sea levels than previously thought. And it may not be limited to Greenland, scientists worry.

Hubble telescope sees supernova as it explodes

Talk about being at the right place at the right time.

In 2010, the Hubble Space Telescope captured several images of the Abell 370 galaxy cluster. In itself, that's hardly a groundbreaking feat. But a team of astronomers systematically reviewing archival Hubble images discovered something incredible in those images: an image of an infant supernova that exploded some 11.5 billion years ago, taken just hours after the star's death.

After launching on the last Atlas V rocket to fly from the West Coast today, the inflatable LOFTID heat shield technology demonstrator appeared to make a flawless journey to space and back.

Rocket Lab launching 1st mission from US on Dec. 7

That mission will lift off from the company's new Launch Complex 2 at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport, which is located at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

"We are honored and excited to bring a new launch capability to Virginia's Eastern Shore," Rocket Lab founder and CEO Peter Beck said.
