Galactic 05 is scheduled to lift off from Spaceport America in New Mexico today (Nov. 2) at 9 a.m. MDT (10 a.m. EDT; 1400 GMT). Two of the three Galactic 05 passengers' names were released last month, and the pair happen to already be well known in the space industry.
NASA confirmed its Lucy spacecraft successfully completed a flyby of asteroid Dinkinesh, a relatively small space rock located in the main belt between Mars and Jupiter. This marks a milestone in Lucy's journey, as Dinkinesh, or 'Dinky,' is the first of 10 asteroids the probe will visit over the next 12 years.
The entire continent will see a partial solar eclipse, with the all-important path of totality heading from northwest Mexico through the U.S. to southeastern Canada.
