Something huge lurks in the Milky Way's 'Zone of Avoidance'
Space.com
Happy Star Wars Day, Space Fans! Today may be famous for tales of Jedi and Sith, but our top story today is about something big hiding near a galaxy not-so-far, far away: our own Milky Way. It's the Vela Supercluster, with the mass of 30,000 TRILLION suns, and it is hiding in plain "sight' behind our Milky Way.

Of course, that's not all. Just in time for Star Wars Day, we have an EPIC portrayal of the sci-fi film in cardboard form, as well as hot Star Wars deals you won't want to miss. Also, check out the awesome view of a spacecraft burning up as seen from astronauts in orbit! But first, what lurks in the Vela Supercluster...

No, we are not done with Star Wars yet. What looks like a scene out of "Star Wars" here is actually an image of ESO's Very Large Telescope Interferometer, as it beams four separate lasers into the sky towards the creepy Tarantula Nebula. You know, for science. Here's how they made the photo.
