Greetings, fellow members of the Tau'ri, and welcome to the February 2026 edition of Watch This Space.
In case you can't tell, I'm a little bit hyped for the new Stargate show that was announced last year, and I'm clearly not alone, as a bunch of you loved our roundup of the big questions surrounding the new series: Are the old cast making cameos? Will it resolve decades-old cliffhangers? And Teal'c… What's with the hair?
Beyond the event horizon of Stargate, it's been a fantastic month for sci-fi fans (I've been lucky enough to say that a lot recently). "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die" hit theaters, and we absolutely loved it. I mean, it's got a time-travelling Sam Rockwell, so obviously we were gonna enjoy it. And in sentences I never thought I'd be saying, YouTube sensation Markiplier's adaptation of indie horror game "Iron Lung" was actually bloody good. Get it? Bloody good? Ah, you got it. Who knows, maybe it will make our list of the bleakest space movies next time we update it?
It's been a quieter month for sci-fi gamers. No big releases, so we took the chance to look forward, rounding up everything we know about the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved. You don't need to read our article to know what a terrible name that is, but we've got loads of other good info in there, too. We also took a whistlestop tour of the entire history of space dogfighting games, which was a fun trip down the memory spacelane. Meanwhile, our resident Alien vs Predator stan, Fran, climbed atop his soapbox to ask, "Where are all the modern AvP games?"
Limiting our screen time, we also checked out a couple of exciting sci-fi novels that are heading our way, including the latest in the Murderbot series from Martha Wells. Then there's the wild-sounding sci-fi debut from NYT best seller Daniel Kraus; It's got living spaceships in it, which makes me think of Farscape, and anything that makes me think of Farscape gets two thumbs up.
Finally, we plummeted into the crushing void of nostalgia to look back on "The Black Hole", Disney's failed attempt to capture that Star Wars magic back in the 80s, before they cottoned onto the winning strategy of just buying it. And while we're actually quite enjoying Starfleet Academy after its rocky start, we still think there's a strong case for Star Trek going back to the 20+ episode seasons of yesteryear.
That's all from me this month, folks. I'm off to play Nemesis Retaliation again. It's basically the movie Aliens as a board game, and I'm yet to survive a game of it. This will be the one.
See you out there,
Ian Stokes, Entertainment Editor, Space
