I can't add music to the newsletter, so just assume the Stargate SG-1 theme is playing while you read this.
IT'S HAPPENING!!! After 14 years, we're finally getting a new Stargate show (no, that weird miniseries Amazon made doesn't count). In the eternal battle between Star Wars and Star Trek fans, I've always defied the two-party system and sided with Stargate, so I am beyond hyped for this. Details are... well, they're not even scarce as there are no real details for now, but we'll be watching this one like a hawk.
November has been a good month for sci-fi fans, with Apple TV's Pluribus landing to near-universal acclaim; no surprise given that it comes from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. Still, we love to see Apple add another sci-fi banger to its incredible roster. On top of that, we had new trailers for Fallout season 2 and Project Hail Mary, both of which are looking fantastic.
Oh, and who can forget that Predator: Badlands hit theaters earlier this month… and it was good. Alien is good again, Predator is good again – what a time to be alive! Two of our regular freelancers had some insightful takes on the movie, with Sergio discussing the oddly human story that it tells (sans any actual humans), while Rich lauded the return of the fun action movie.
I, meanwhile, got to chat to an ex-SpaceX engineer and current video game developer about Kitten Space Agency, a spiritual successor to Kerbal Space Program (which is needed because the actual successor to KSP isn't doing so hot). It's early days for the game, but the team just released an alpha that's worth checking out. We also checked out Mars First Logistics, a gorgeous physics-based sandbox game where you build your own Mars rovers.
We also said Happy Birthday to Kang & Kodos, the iconic aliens from The Simpsons, who turned 30 at the end of last month. They just called us foolish earthlings and shot at us, but we're pretty sure they appreciated the gesture nonetheless.
And that's a wrap for us this month. As always, there was more great writing on the site than I had time to cover here; check out the rest of the highlights below. I'm off to play Arc Raiders and spam the "don't shoot" emote, as if that'll save me. Have a great weekend!
See you out there,
Ian Stokes, Entertainment Editor, Space
