Boo!

It's spooky season, and while we're lining up some fantastic horror-themed content for you over the next week or so, the truly scary thing would be not taking the time to appreciate all the amazing stuff we've had on the site over the past month. What a segue!

New York Comic Con blessed us with some delicious Star Trek trailers, including our first proper look at Starfleet Academy, along with an extended clip from Strange New Worlds Season 4. Both are looking interesting, with the former adding Late Night's own (for now) Stephen Colbert to the cast. Elsewhere, we spoke to Invasion star Shioli Katsuna about her freaky alien friend ahead of the Invasion season 3 finale, which is out today. Seriously, Apple TV has all the best sci-fi these days. We also continued obsessing over and analyzing Alien: Earth, talking to experts about the transhumanist future it portrays and how close we are (spoilers: not very). In less good sci-fi coverage, we also "got our ass to Mars" for the "Doom" movie's 20th birthday. It still sucks, but that first-person scene was pretty cool, I guess.

On the gaming front, we're in the calm before the holiday release storm. So, we took the time to dive through our backlogs and find some awesome space and sci-fi game recommendations for you, with lists of strategy, co-op, and underrated gems for you to disagree with our rankings on. The Outer Worlds 2 is out soon, though, and the reviews have been looking good. I don't get on with "Fallout-like" games myself, so everyone can have fun while I pout. Speaking of Fallout, New Vegas turned 15 this month, and with Fallout Season 2 heading to Sin City, we made the case for why now is the perfect time to replay it.

For those of you who prefer the written word (we love you, keep reading our articles), we also spoke to Neil deGrasse Tyson about his new book "Just Visiting This Planet", and chatted to author Becky Ferreira about "First Contact", which dives into humanity's obsession with aliens. Spooky, spooky aliens.

OK, that's all from me this week, I've got to go get my Halloween costume ready. As an online writer, I'm going as the scariest thing I know — a Google algorithm update *shudders*. Have a great Halloween, everyone!

See you out there,

Ian Stokes, Entertainment Editor, Space
