A powerful solar flare disrupted radio and navigation signals across North America on Aug. 7 and prompted space weather forecasters to issue warnings because of energetic particles hitting Earth.
It was the second X-flare in less than three days — and we should brace for more such activity.
Did you see it? Debris from a recent Russian rocket launch fell from space over parts of Australia this week, lighting up the night sky as spectator looked on.
The crashing rocket generated a "fireball and sonic boom that rattled homes across Victoria," 7 News Australia said via X (formerly Twitter) on Aug. 8, referring to the southern state whose capital, Melbourne, is Australia's second-largest city.
Virgin Galactic's Galactic-02 is scheduled to fly a three-person crew, plus the Virgin Galactic astronaut instructor who trained them and two company pilots, on a flight to suborbital space on Aug. 10.

The immense power of SpaceX's Starship Super Heavy booster is on glorious display in newly released photos of a recent engine test.
