India is on the moon! The Indian Space Research Organisation's Chandrayaan-3 moon lander Vikram successfully landed on the moon today, making India the 4th country ever to soft-land on the moon. If that wasn't enough, India is now the 1st country ever to land near the moon's south pole!
The target for a space debris cleanup mission is apparently in pieces. A leftover rocket adapter, expected to be removed from low Earth orbit in 2026, has new pieces of space debris floating nearby. That's an unexpected event for the European Space Agency's ClearSpace-1 mission, which is a planned test mission to remove that adapter in 2026.

This moon is notable for a few reasons: For one, not only is it a full moon, but it's also a Blue Moon, which means it's the third full moon in a season that has four full moons, according to NASA.
The Progress 85 vehicle lifted off atop a Soyuz rocket from the Russian-run Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan last night at 9:08 p.m. EDT (0108 GMT on Aug. 23). If all goes according to plan, the freighter will arrive at the orbiting lab on Thursday (Aug. 24) at 11:50 p.m. EDT (0350 GMT on Aug. 25). SpaceX and NASA are checking off boxes ahead of the company's next crewed launch to the International Space Station, which is scheduled for Aug. 25.
