A black hole jet is more powerful than the Death Star
We're not making this up. A supermassive black hole jet was recently found to have so much energy that astronomers opted to compare it to the estimated energy output of a fictional device: the Death Star from "Star Wars: A New Hope", which can blow up entire planets.

In other news, an astrophotographer captured a stunning image of the Flaming Star Nebula, a nearby star's eruption could unlock secrets around superflares and China joins the race to build data centers in space

It's also Friday and as we head into the weekend our staff have recommendations for what to read/play/watch. You'll find those at the bottom of your newsletter.

We have all that and more for your daily read.
Keep looking up,

What we're reading/playing/watching
Whether you're looking to unwind with a mind-bending sci-fi series or lose yourself in a video game during the coming weekend, we've got you covered. Here's what the Space.com team is enjoying at the moment:

Brett Tingley, Managing Editor: "I'm reading the 'Space-Mullet' trade paperback. Daniel Warren Johnson's comic about former space marines turned cosmic truckers is a much grittier take on the Han Solo/Malcolm Reynolds archetype. Gorgeous art, too!"

Kenna Hughes-Castleberry, Content Manager: "I'm just about done with 'Challenger' by Adam Higginbotham, in honor of the anniversary of the Challenger disaster. It's an engaging deep dive into the astronauts, the mission and the high-stakes of the NASA program."
