International Space Station (ISS) Expedition 71 crew members Tracy Dyson and Matt Dominick will not be performing an extravehicular activity (EVA) that had been scheduled to begin Thursday (June 13) morning. The pair had already begun adorning their spacesuits when NASA announced the EVA's postponement, according to a space agency blog post this morning.

Hubble Telescope shares stunning galactic

The aging but tenacious Hubble Space Telescope has beamed back yet another stunning photo of a distant galaxy. Hubble's latest view captures the barred spiral galaxy NGC 3059, which lies about 57 million light-years from Earth. The photo, released on June 7, was taken in May using the space telescope's Wide Field Camera 3 instrument as part of a broader galactic study

SpaceX launching 22 Starlink satellites from Florida today

SpaceX is scheduled to launch 22 more of its Starlink broadband satellites to orbit from Florida's Space Coast on Thursday (June 13). The Starlink satellites will lift off atop a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station during a two-hour window that opens at 4:46 p.m. EDT (2046 GMT). SpaceX had planned to launch the mission on Wednesday evening (June 12) but pushed the try back by about 24 hours.

Stoke Space test-fires engine for fully reusable rocket

Stoke Space has announced the first successful hot-fire test of an engine designed for its upcoming reusable rocket. The Kent, Washington-based company tested its new full-flow, staged-combustion (FFSC) rocket engine on June 5 at the company's test site in Moses Lake, Washington. Photos from the test show the engine kicking up a large plume of sand and rocks as the engine was throttled up to produce half of its maximum thrust.

Ed Stone, who led NASA's Voyager project, dies at 88

Ed Stone, who served as the project scientist for NASA's groundbreaking Voyager mission from 1972 to 2022, died on Sunday (June 9) at the age of 88. "Ed Stone was a trailblazer who dared mighty things in space. He was a dear friend to all who knew him, and a cherished mentor to me personally," Nicola Fox, associate administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, said in NASA's obituary for Stone, which the agency posted on Tuesday (June 11).

NASA weighs impacts of helium leaks on Boeing's Starliner

NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams continue performing checkouts on their Starliner spacecraft, some of which are focusing on the potential effect of helium leaks, five of which have been detected on Starliner to date. One was spotted before launch but eventually deemed to pose little risk to full mission success. Four more have now been discovered while Starliner is in space, but that isn't necessarily cause for alarm.
