Blue Ghost lander leaves Earth orbit to head for the moon

Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lunar lander is now headed for the moon after firing its engines to send it out of Earth orbit. Blue Ghost will enter a high lunar orbit in the next few days and then begin lowering its orbit to get ready for a landing attempt.

Euclid telescope discovers stunning Einstein ring

The Euclid space telescope has, by chance, discovered its first Einstein ring, and it is absolutely stunning. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this perfectly circular Einstein ring has allowed researchers to "weigh" the dark matter at the heart of a galaxy almost 600 million light-years away.

Crater-diving 'Gracie' will launch to the moon this month

A SpaceX launch later this month will send a new type of lunar explorer to the moon. IM-2, the second moon mission by Houston company Intuitive Machines, will lift off from Florida's Space Coast during a four-day window that opens on Feb. 26. If all goes to plan, Athena will land on a plateau just 100 miles (160 kilometers) from the moon's south pole. This region is thought to be rich in water ice, and IM-2 will prospect for the precious resource with the help of some ride-along robots, including a pioneering hopper nicknamed Gracie.

Feb. 11, 2010: NASA launches Solar Dynamics Observatory

On Feb. 11, 2010, NASA launched a spacecraft to study the inner workings of the sun. The new Solar Dynamics Observatory was made to take the most detailed and comprehensive measurements of the sun ever. The satellite orbits Earth, but its orbit allows it to look at the sun continuously. It looks for activity like sunspots and solar flares, but it also studies the sun's magnetic field. By better understanding the sun's crazy and warped magnetic fields, scientists hope to better predict space weather events that spew harmful radiation toward Earth. The Solar Dynamics Observatory launched just in time to see the sun during the peak of its 11-year solar cycle.

Уважаемые коллеги!

На заседании Ученого совета ИТФ в пятницу 14.02 в 11:30 будет заслушан 1 доклад:
1). А.В. Ланкин, Г.Э. Норман
Новое направление квантовых технологий (Постулат фон Неймана для коллапса волновой функции: экспериментальная верификация и обобщение. Квантовая нелокальность. Контрафактная передача информации.)

Сделан обзор базовых работ по понятию измерения в квантовой механике от
теоретических (Борн 1926, фон Нейман 1932, Дике 1981, Леггетт и Гарг 1985) до
экспериментальных, верифицирующих теорию (квантовый эффект Зенона 1990,
контрафактная связь 2017, неравенства Леггетта-Гарга 2024). Проведено
обобщение постулата фон Неймана на interaction-free измерения одночастичных
состояний. В рамках единого подхода рассмотрены разнородные задачи
(контрафактные процедуры, неравенства Леггетта-Гарга). Сделана попытка дать
формулировку квантовой механики как физической теории, постулаты которой
включают: для однократных измерений – постулат Борна, для многократных –
постулат фон Неймана и его обобщение для interaction-free измерений. Показано
снижение энергозатрат на передачу одного бита при контрафактной передаче
информации, по сравнению с классическим пределом. Из проведенного
рассмотрения следует нелокальность квантовой механики даже для
одночастичных состояний, когда отсутствуют квантовые корреляции. Рассмотрены
перспективы приложений, которые связаны с interaction-free измерениями, т.е.
коллапсом волновой функции без взаимодействия.

1. Постулаты Борна (1926) и фон Неймана (1932)
2. Квантовый эффект Зенона (1990)
3. Interaction-free измерения (Дике 1981, Леггетт и Гарг 1985)
4. Обобщение постулата фон Неймана на interaction-free измерения
одночастичных состояний.
5. Неравенства Леггетта-Гарга.
6. Протокол контрафактных измерений.
7. Контрафактная передача информации (без передачи материи и/или энергии).
8. Выводы.

2032 asteroid impact chances just went up, but don't worry

The odds of the asteroid 2024 YR4 impacting Earth in 2032 have increased to 1 in 43. Despite this, you still shouldn't worry about the potential impact of this asteroid. That's because experts expected the impact probability of this asteroid, which sits at the top of the Center for Near Earth Object Studies Sentry asteroid risk list, to increase. They also expect the chance of an impact to fall dramatically in the near future when we know more about its orbit.

A 59-foot-tall (18 meters) Electron rocket carrying five spacecraft for the French company Kinéis lifted off from Rocket Lab's New Zealand site at 3:43 p.m. EST (2043 GMT; 9:43 a.m. Feb. 9 local New Zealand time). The launch was the fourth of five that Rocket Lab is conducting to build out Kinéis' 25-nanosatellite constellation in low Earth orbit.

SpaceX launched another batch of its Starlink internet satellites from Florida's Space Coast on Saturday (Feb. 8). A Falcon 9 rocket carrying 21 Starlink spacecraft, including 13 with direct-to-cell capability, lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station Saturday, at 2:18 p.m. EST (1918 GMT).

NASA and General Atomics test future nuclear fuels

The first humans to Mars might someday ride a rocket propelled by a nuclear reactor to their destination. But before that can happen, nuclear thermal propulsion technologies still have quite a way to go before we could blast astronauts through space on a nuclear rocket. Earlier this month, though, General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems tested a new NTP reactor fuel at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, to find out if the fuel could function in the extreme conditions of space.

Feb. 10, 1958: Radar bounced off Venus by MIT

On Feb. 10, 1958, scientists at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory bounced radar waves off of Venus. At the time, Venus was at a point in its orbit called inferior conjunction, where it is directly in between the Earth and the sun. Scientists beamed a radar signal toward Venus, which was about 28 million miles away at the time. It took about 5 minutes for the signal to bounce off of Venus and return to Earth. This was slightly shorter than they anticipated, which means that Venus was actually closer to Earth than scientists believed at the time.
