Auroras blast a 250-mile-wide hole in Earth's ozone layer

Although humans are to blame for much of the ozone layer's depletion, observations of a type of aurora known as an isolated proton aurora have revealed a cause of ozone depletion that comes from space: Charged particles in plasma belched out by solar flares and coronal mass ejections also keep gnawing at the ozone layer.

India's most powerful rocket launches 36 OneWeb internet satellites into orbit

The mission was the first for OneWeb since February, when Russia invaded Ukraine and shook up the spaceflight landscape (among many other, more serious impacts).

It was the second operational flight of India's GSLV Mark III rocket and the first commercial multi-satellite mission of its kind for the Indian rocket, a flight that was overseen by New Space India Limited (NSIL), ISRO's commercial arm.

Russian Soyuz rocket launches 2 classified military satellites

Russia launched two more military satellites to orbit on Friday (Oct. 21), continuing a busy spaceflight stretch for the nation. The Soyuz-2-1v rocket lifted off from Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northwestern Russia carrying two classified payloads to orbit.
