Astronomers have discovered two new black holes that are the closest ones to Earth known, and also represent something that astronomers have never seen before.
The black hole Gaia BH1 is located just 1,560 light-years away from Earth in the direction of the constellation Ophiuchus, while Gaia BH2 lies 3,800 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus. In cosmic terms, both black holes are therefore situated in Earth's backyard.
April's full moon, also known as the Pink Moon, rises tonight, and will be visible in its full glory throughout the evening. Around the globe, the Pink Moon will rise at around dusk and will set at around dawn, meaning it is visible for most of the night.
NASA's Ingenuity helicopter has been flying on Mars for nearly two years now, and it's still breaking records. The tiny Martian chopper flew faster and higher than it ever had before on its most recent Red Planet sortie on April 2.
On the night of April 5, as the moon gets higher in the evening, one can see no fewer than three of the five naked-eye planets. Mercury, Venus and Mars are the key standouts in the evening sky.
The California-based launch company Virgin Orbit has started the process for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is commonly known as "reorganization bankruptcy" and allows the company to continue basic operations while it looks for a buyer. Its original founder, billionaire Sir Richard Branson, has not opted to bail it out.
While witnessing the Apollo 11 launch and moon landing in July 1969, Life Magazine journalist Norman Mailer was so befuddled by events that he renamed himself in his writings.
On Monday, I sympathized with Mailer's choice to call himself Aquarius. I, a Canadian journalist, had the good fortune to attend the ceremony at which NASA announced the crewmembers for its Artemis 2 around-the-moon mission. One of those astronauts, Jeremy Hansen, is a Canadian, and seeing him introduced left me a bit unmoored.

The map reveals the locations and sizes of all 85,000 volcanic landforms discovered on Venus to date, and the scientists hope that it will help with the search for new active volcanoes on Earth's scorching planetary neighbor.
Delays to the first of three missions making the long awaited return to the scorching planet Venus, which scientists say has not had enough robotic visitors in the past decades, might affect the two other missions set to explore our planetary neighbor.
Imagine if one side of the Earth always faced the sun. Half of the planet would be stuck in perpetual daylight, the other shrouded in permanent night. But for aliens in other solar systems, our doomsday scenario may be their everyday — and life might get along just fine.
Directed by Puerto Rican filmmaker Angel Manuel Soto ("Charm City Kings") and starring Xolo Maridueña ("Cobra Kai") in the titular role, this flashy "Blue Beetle" project represents the first Latin DC superhero.
The sixth chapter of The Mandalorian season 3 hits the brakes too late into the game and gets to a crucial plot point in a frustrating and mostly dull manner. Here's what we thing. WARNING: Spoilers ahead.
