NASA announces early leave for ISS crew
For the first time ever, astronauts will depart the International Space Station early due to a medical issue. NASA announced on Thursday afternoon (Jan. 8) that it has decided to bring the four astronauts of SpaceX's Crew-11 mission home from the International Space Station (ISS) ahead of schedule. In other news Jupiter will be at its biggest and brightest tonight as it reaches opposition, galaxy clusters may hold answers to what makes up dark matter and we take a look at the final trailer for 'Greenland 2.'

It's also Friday so as we head into the weekend we have your weekly staff recommendations of "what we're reading/playing/watching." You'll find those suggestions from our team at the bottom of your newsletter.

We have all that and more for your daily read.

What we're reading/playing/watching
Whether you're looking to unwind with a mind-bending sci-fi series or lose yourself in a video game during the coming weekend, we've got you covered. Here's what the Space.com team is enjoying at the moment:

Brett Tingley, Managing Editor: "I'm currently playing Mars First Logistics. It tasks players with designing rovers and other robotic vehicles to ferry equipment across the dynamic terrain of the Red Planet. Challenging and humorous at the same time. A real gem of a game and a relaxing way to feel like you're building your own Mars base, one HVAC unit dropped down a ravine at a time."

Anthony Wood, Skywatching Writer: "I'm murdering my way around medieval Bohemia in Kingdom Come Deliverance II, reading Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin and not watching Tron Ares"

Vanessa Jewell, Social Media Manager: "Currently reading Quicksilver by Callie Hart and listening to the audio book for The Armor of Light by Ken Follet."

Ian Stokes, Entertainment Editor: "I'm continuing my five-year mission to boldly watch all of 'Star Trek.'"

Kenna Hughes-Castleberry, Content Manager: "I'm currently reading 'Big Little Lies' by Liane Moriarty as a pleasure read to ease myself into the new year."
